A community rooted in faith and tradition

Founded in 1854, the Church of Our Lady is a national heritage site located in the heart of Amsterdam. It proudly serves the Roman Catholic community with an active and welcoming spirit. In addition to celebrating Mass, administering the sacraments, and offering various forms of faith formation, the church places special emphasis on the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the beauty of choral liturgy.

Choir

A place of worship

The choir holds a special place in the Roman Catholic tradition, enriching the liturgy through beauty, prayer, and unity. By leading the congregation in song and preserving the Church’s musical heritage, the choir transforms each celebration into a deeper spiritual experience and invites the community to encounter God through harmony and devotion.

Essence of the Catholic faith

A place of peace, beauty and connection

“To be a Catholic is to be aware that you are a child of God, and to live with the joy, the peace, and the strength that come from knowing that you are loved personally by Him.”
St. Josemaría Escrivá

This simple yet profound truth captures the essence of the Catholic faith: a deep sense of belonging, a joyful trust in God’s love, and the desire to reflect that love in everyday life.

The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary — also known as the Church of Our Lady or the Mother of God Church (Syriac: ܥܕܬܐ ܕܝܠܕܬ ܐܠܗܐ, Ito dyoldath Aloho) — is a neo-Gothic church located at Keizersgracht 220 in Amsterdam. Owned by the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch, the church is used today by both the Syrian Orthodox and Roman Catholic communities.

The church was founded in 1854 by the Redemptorist Fathers and was designed by architect Theo Molkenboer. In 1985 the Redemptorists left the church due to the lack of redemptorist priests. The church was acquired by the Syriac Orthodox Church in the Netherlands and the parish was renamed to Moeder Godskerk (Church of the Mother of God). However, the church never closed its doors for the Roman and Surinam Catholic believers.
